Orientation

Gulfport is a beautiful montage of theme parks, museums, historic sites, national parks and several other attractions, which have infused a positive spirit in the town that has been ravaged by numerous natural calamities. Gulfport is admirably rooted in its cultural ethos while still boasting of a contemporary countenance. There are pristine coastal beaches and stunning boulevards along with picturesque islands and golf courses. There are also a few art centers and some fabulous antique shops lining the avenues of this modern sea-side holiday ghetto.

Attractions

Take the Ship Island Ferry that drops you directly at Ship Island from the Small Craft Harbor. The pristine spot and alluring natural backdrop of the island is ideal for a family beach picnic and water sports activities including windsurfing.

Golf enthusiasts can indulge in an enjoyable game at the Bayou Vista Golf Course that features 18 holes and 6,287 green yards. Another great leisure option is the Island View Casino Resort that has more than 2000 slots and 47 tables of pure gambling fun along with a weekly live entertainment program and an exhaustive bar menu. For buying super rare antiques, look no further than Alston’s Antiques, located at 25 th Avenue for its gorgeous array of old handmade dolls, grandfather clocks, vintage furniture and other enviable collectibles. The best buy here are the ancient slot machines that are worth every dime that is spent on them. Lynn Meadows Discovery Centre is a nice children’s museum that is filled with interactive learning games and educational play activities. The entrance fee is $7 for both children and adults and is free from 5pm to 8pm every Friday evening. Apart from these there are several small islands and beaches that adorn the Gulfport region belt and visitors can discover them at their own pace.

Food and Accommodation

Gulfport is predictably famous for its fresh seafood. Catfish Charlie serves awesome flaky catfish and some brilliantly whipped up side dishes. Lookout 49 is a favorite for its well-done steaks and sea-food specialties. Don’t go from here without eating the potato and bread pudding with a generous helping of whiskey sauce. Delicious. Other good eateries are Daddy’s Little Kitchen and Tug’s Wharf Seafood Restaurant. For accommodation there is a line-up of fairly good hotels from Best Western Beach View Inn to Best Western Seaway Inn. For lesser priced options, Courtyard Gulfport is a nice bet along with Fairfield Inn Gulfport. Holiday Inn boasts of good modern amenities and great service at a good package deal.

Gulfport is a paradise of striking old-fashioned coastal beauty with a dash of contemporary infrastructure.
