Albert Lea, considered the capital of South Central Minnesota, is located on the intersection of Interstates 35 and 90 just north of the Iowa Border. Scenic and Historical, Albert Lea is built between and around two lakes. Albert Lea Lake, the larger of the two, runs from Myre Big Island State Park west under the I35 bridge to the south eastern part of downtown. There a channel connects it to Fountain Lake, known for its scenic walking and biking paths and its water and boating recreation.

Eddie Cochran Weekend marks the begginning of summer in Albert Lea. It is celebrated in honor of favorite son and the recording artist responsible for hits such as Summertime Blues. Festivities include Classic Car shows and street dances bringing in hoards of tourists.

Albert Lea is also home to the Freeborn County Fair, the biggest and best fair in the area. Because everyone pays a small entry fee, there is enough revenue to attract TOP SHELF entertainment for the FREE grandstand shows. Recently acts have included Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, 38 Special and Sara Evans.

The Big Island Rendezvous is held annually in early fall in Northwest Albert Lea. It is a historical, "hands on" festival with authentic pioneer dress, shops, and food vendors. Once inside there are free Demonstrations and shows running all weekend long that take you back in time and give you a glimpse of 19th Centuy Life.

Albert Lea is a can't miss destination when you are in, entering, or leaving Minnesota. Shopping as well as lodging, restaraunts and gas are abundant near all of the city's 6 interstate exits.  Or take the "Business Loop 35" which runs through the heart of the city and back on to the Freeway quickly and conveniently.
