The British Myles Standish bought over a chunk of region called Saughtucket from Ousamequin and renamed the land Bridgewater. After a series of several christening and re-christening efforts-the name Brockton emerged to represent a town that was The United States’ biggest shoe producer during the American Civil War along with being an inexhaustible and eminent leather accessories storehouse till the late 20 th century. Brockton is a modern day ghetto of many firsts. It was the first region to boast of a three wire electrical underground system, the first place on earth to have a theater to be bound by the electric three wire system. The first branch of the celebrated Christmas department store, Santa Claus, was set up at Brackton in 1890.

Brockton is beautifully winged on one side by the Salisbury River and lies in a predominantly urban landscape. The region is adorned by modern parks, charming natural lakes and conservation belts along with golf courses and top notch sports infrastructure facilities.

A majority of the national fast food chain outlets are located off the Route 24 exit. For authentic and full-bodied Italian grub, Italian Kitchen has no competitors. They serve the sauciest delicacies created from original handpicked ingredients. Christo’s is nice for their Greek salads. Village Pizza and Subs has a nice array of sandwiches and pastas.
