Belgrade Lakes Travel Guide

This region of Maine is a beautiful and convenient mixture of many of the beautiful features of central Maine. The lakes, Great Pond, Long Pond, Salmon Pond, Snow Pond, North Pond, and East Pond are all beautiful in their own right. Belgrade Lakes Village is situated on a narrow strip of land dividing Great Pond and Long Pond and contains an assortment of antiques and crafts shops, a general store, a post office, and a few other necessities. The Village Inn, a restaurant world famous for duck, offers pleasant views of the connecting waterway and the ducks that paddle happily away oblivious to the fate of their brethren. The lakes have a solid population of year round residents, but the area is mostly known as a popular summer retreat. A large area of woodlands on steep hills overlooking Long Pond have been protected from development thanks to the efforts of local conservationists such as Eddie Mayer. A nationally renown golf course, built in the late 90's occupies a precipitous hilltop offering dazzling views of the surrounding lakes.
