Madison County & Winterset Travel Guide

Madison County is home to six covered bridges and the movie "Bridges of Madison County" was filmed here using these bridges. Every year in October the town of Winterset located in Madison County has its autumn "Madison County Covered Bridge Festival" to celebrate the local harvest and their covered bridges. Bus tours are available to visit the bridges or you can visit them on your own.

The center of the festival is in the town of Winterset located in Madison County. A half day can easily be spent participating at the festival and touring the bridges.

The house in which actor John Wayne was born is located in Winterset and is open to the public as a museum.
