Sights in Chicago
Edit ThisChicago is one of the largest cities in the United States. Chicago Sights are numerous and varied. The best tourist spots of Chicago will take more than a couple of weekends for you to cover. Some of the must-see and unique tourist destinations are listed below:
The Sears Tower ( Willis Tower )
For more than three decades from the 1970s to the 1990s, Sears Tower, currently known as Willis Tower, was deemed to be the Mt. Everest among man-made structures. Unlike the Empire State Building, this tower was originally made for business purpose and not as a tourist attraction. The tower still houses headquarters of many big business corporations. The tower is open for visitors every day during the official working hours. The vista that the tower offers of the Chicago skyline and the sprawling city below will take your breath away. If you happen to be at the top section of the tower during the evening, the scene of the sun setting into the horizon and the fascinating view of Chicago city fully illuminated at night will remain deeply imprinted in your mind.
The Art Institute of Chicago
The Art Institute of Chicago is located near the Millennium Park at Michigan Avenue. This Institute has a huge collection of paintings of Monet, van Gogh and Picasso. Every year this institute holds exhibitions of paintings, sculptures and artifacts of ancient and medieval ages. The best part is that you can take pictures of many of the exhibits.
Magnificent Mile
Even before we heard of any mega store, superstore or shopping mall, the Magnificent Mile was the shopping destination for the entire Prairie region. The Mag Mile on Michigan Ave has an array of exclusive big brand shops. Chanel, Prada, Coach are some of the notable world class brands that line along this area. At the heart of Magnificent Mile, Water Tower Place is the most premier shopping destination. This eight-storied building houses more than 100 specialty stores and boutiques and some gourmet restaurants. If you want to shop top-class stores but desire to avoid the hustle and bustle of a usual shopping mall, then the Magnificent Mile is the most suitable place to meet your desire.
Millennium Parky
The construction of Millennium Park began in 1997 and immediately after its inauguration, people started considering it to be the best creation of the millennium year. The Jay Pritzker Pavilion is the most sophisticated outdoor concert venue in the entire world. It was designed by the great Frank Gehry. The Interactive Crown Fountain, Laurie Garden and the Cloud Gate structure by Anish Kapoor are hugely popular among the tourists.
