Waimea Canyon is often called the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" and has beautiful vistas and overlooks easily accessible to a rental car. The culmination of your drive up to the 4,000 foot level is the Kalalau Valley overlook, breathtakingly beautiful and mysterious. An excellent museum and restaurant await at Kokee Lodge.

The North Shore offers the Kilauea Lighthouse, and excellent spot for whale and bird watching. Continue north to Hanalei, where taro still grows to make "poi", the Hawaiian staple food. Many beautiful beaches, including the mythical "Bali Hai" are located here, along the Limahuli Gardens, a botanical wonder with many native Hawaiian plants.
