The exciting city of Miami, Florida has a lot to offer. The weather here is almost always warm and sunny so it’s very tempting to just sit by the pool or on the beach and relax.  Don’t forget to get out and explore because there is plenty to do. Beaches, shopping, theme parks and night clubs are all first class and plentiful in this spicy city. 

South Beach

This famous area of Miami is hopping both day and night. For some fancy but affordable shopping and al fresco cafes representing numerous countries, Lincoln Dr. in South Beach is not to be missed. There are less expensive stores and two huge drugstores as you come out of Lincoln Dr. and walk towards Collins Ave. On Collins Ave. you can find an endless selection of bikinis and beach wear. The beach in this area is huge and free and has many restaurants. The renowned nightlife here is heavily Latin influenced so you can find great reggaeton, hip hop and salsa music. This area is easily accessed by bus, dress to impress.


You may have been to zoos before but the Miami Metrozoo is special and a must-see attraction. This special zoo presents animals in their natural habitats without cages. Large moats surround their habitat to keep them contained and to give you and up-close and unobstructed view. The zoo is open 365 days a year from 9:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., ticket booths close at 4:30 p.m.

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens

This National Historic Landmark, built in 1916 has 10 scenic acres of formal gardens and a historic main house (mansion really) filled with amazing antiques from around the world.  Admission is reasonable, students, children, seniors and Miami-Dade residents receive a discount.  Parking for cars is free and you can access Vizcaya by Metrorail. Open 364 days a year (closed Dec. 25) from 9:30 – 4:30.

Calle Ocho

Well, Americans may not be able to go to Cuba yet but you can visit Little Havana to experience the wonderful culture of Cuba. Have a meal at a Cuban restaurant and try some cake from a Cuban bakery. A main attraction here is watching the old-timers play dominos and chess at Domino Park.

Theme Parks

You have a variety of choices when it comes to theme parks in Miami. The Seaquarium is the most well known and a great place to spend the day. There are other theme parks as well, including Parrot Jungle, Everglades Safari Park and monkey jungle. All these parks will give you the quintessential Miami tourist experience this city is so famous for.
