With its close proximately to those cities, along with Philadelphia and Baltimore, Wilmington is an important city in the Northeast Megalopolis.
Situated along the Delaware, Christina, and Brandywine Rivers, Wilmington was originally a shipping port in colonial America. The rapid flow of the Brandywine eventually lead to milling, including the creation of the DuPont company, the largest chemical company in the world. Since the early 1980s, banking became the next large focal point in Wilmington, as credit card companies have moved to Wilmington due to Delaware's banking laws.
The Du Pont mansion now is home to Winterthur which is a museum, garden and library. At the rear of Winterthur is The Enchanted Woods which is sized for children, but adults also enjoy this garden.
