Introduction

Aurora is a Home Rule Municipality in Colorado and awkwardly spans across the counties of Arapahoe, Douglas and Adams. The history of the town dates back to the late 19 th century when it was named Fletcher after a Denver businessman who recognized Aurora’s real estate potential. Fletcher and his business associates put their stakes on four square miles of land in east Denver but Colorado and the town both suffered a mighty blow in the 1893 Silver Crash leading to Fletcher’s quick exit and a huge water debt for the locals to contend with. The natives christened their town Aurora in 1907 and it slowly began to feed on Denver’s glory to become one of the most fastest growing and sought after cities in the United States.

The only reason that the town has not been awarded a metropolitan area status combined with Denver a la Aurora/Denver Metropolitan area is because the identity of Aurora is more suburban in nature and it lacks a large historically relevant central business district. The city is known for its top notch sports facilities and has been actively involved in facilitating sports development programs, setting up sports franchise and participating in international league games.
