Tulipmania Festival - PIER 39 San Francisco

Yearly in February, PIER 39 presents its popular Tulipmania showcasing thousands of  tulips throughout both levels of PIER 39. This year’s display will feature a variety of whimsical topiaries interspersed among the flower beds. PIER 39’s Tulipmania has become a favorite of many because of the unique tulip color combinations, and variety of tulips that are in clear view for the public to enjoy. For several days, visitors absorb the visual splendor and gardening tips offered during the “tulip tours” headed by PIER 39’s landscape team.

Critical Mass

Every last Friday of a month, a large group of bicyclists gathers at 5:30 pm at Justin Herman Plaze which is at the bottom of Market St. (aka Embarcadero Plaza). They then set of on a secret route through the city to manifest the importance of non-carbound traffic in a modern city.

911 Power to the Peaceful Festival

Since 1999 Michael Franti has been organizing the free Power to the Peaceful Festival in Golden Gate Park on or around September 11.  What started as an internation day of art and culture to raise awareness  for Mumia Abu-Jamal's case quickly grew to represent the rights of all death row inmates and social justice in general.  More recently, Franti has stated that "in 2001 the day of September 11th took on a wider significance as a result of the tragic loss of life by the attacks of the day.  As the event grew, it took on the role as a day of healing for all more..

7/31: Bubbleland at Habitot Children's Museum

(Berkeley, CA) July 31, 2009 – Habitot will be transformed into a Land of Bubbles on Friday, July 31 from 9:30 am-4:30 pm. Children will craft their own bubble wands out of recycled materials in the Art Studio. Children can also create giant tubular bubbles, craft a bubble trampoline from straws and string, and stand inside a kid-sized bubble.
