Beaches

Newport has a large beautiful soft white sand beach all along the Pacific Ocean. Then there are the various beaches located along the bays. The wedge with it's jetty is the southernmost beach and the sights are interesting of the harbour and the waves. Swimming is mainly for the experts here. The wedge breaks huge during heavy south swells

The beaches continue on up to the Balboa Pier which has shops and facilities nearby and is safer for swimming. Further up, the Newport Pier has even more facilites, a fresh fish market, shops, restaurants, hotels, showers and bathrooms, rental shops, and roller skating with a sidewalk along the edge that goes almost all the way to the Wedge. Watch out for the bikers, too!

Up toward the Northernmost part of the beaches is Orange Street Beach which has the shallowest sea farthest out.

Board surfing at all beaches is usually between special flags and swimmers aren't allowed there. There is a curfew at midnight, police and lifeguards up and down the beaches, and the Coast Guard mans boats on the waters' edge,

Balboa Island, Balboa Penninsula, Lido Isle, Newport Harbor and the Back Bay all have beaches. And the Newport Dunes Park in the Back Bay has a beach and a campground.
