You'll find Big Bear Lake at 7,000 feet elevation. The lakeside resort communities here offer year-round recreation-boating, jet skiing, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, skiing, and other snow sports. In the winter, the snow depth can reach 6 feet. If you have children, be sure to visit Santa's Village, a woodsy theme park in Skyforest. Also, walk the nearby nature trail at Heap's Peak Arboretum. Follow the scenic highway to Barton Flats, on the edge of the San Gorgonio Wilderness, for a picnic, and later stretch your legs on the fascinating San Bernardino Peak Loop Trail.
