Located in the southeast corner of California and just 10 miles from our Brawley, CA hotel, the Salton Sea is actually a lake which occupies a desert basin known as the Salton Sink. Fifteen miles away you’ll encounter the Imperial Sand Dunes, also known as the Algodones Dunes, which are the largest mass of sand dunes in California. This dune system extends for more than 40 miles along the eastern edge of the Imperial Valley agricultural region in a band averaging five miles in width. Off-highway vehicle activity is permitted on more than two-thirds of the sand dunes. One of the most popular areas is Glamis, located just south of State Highway 78.
