Beaches in California

Edit This

Along the West Coast, you will find some of the most beautiful country to explore and that, of course, includes the sunny and sandy California Beaches. There are those famous for great surfing, for having luxurious resorts and hotels, and for being home to celebrities. Listed below are just a few tourists visiting California should keep in mind.

Malibu Beaches

Comprised of a couple well known hot spots since the 1960s, the Malibu area offers up the Zuma and Surfrider beaches. They’re both in close proximity to the Malibu Pier and home to some of Los Angeles's best waves for surfing. Not far down the road you’ll run into another couple of great beach spots in both Santa Monica and Venice; also home to a variety of celebrities, amusement parks, shopping and dining.

La Jolla and Coronado Beaches

The stretch of beach area found in La Jolla and Coronado is one of the most beautiful in all of California. The beaches offer a resort atmosphere with possibly every amenity you could imagine, but not just in activities. The lavish Hotel Del Coronado resort and beach have a long-standing history in the fact movies have been filmed there, in addition to accommodating some world famous guests.   The La Jolla beachfront has some lovely snorkeling spots in their hidden coves in addition to surfing, wind surfing and kayaking.

Santa Cruz Beaches

The Santa Cruz beaches stretch out to an extraordinary 29 miles on the coast of this amazing city.  Families will find there are endless possibilities of things to do and see. Try surfing, fishing, or simply shop and visit the boardwalk-style amusement park right along the beach. Take a beach train ride or just walk along the city’s boardwalk and you may run into a few sea lions or pelicans lounging in the warm sun.

Sonoma Coast Beaches

Sonoma coastal beaches are probably most famous for 2 things – it’s where Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘The Birds’ was filmed--and they’re home to more than 300 types of bird species.   Throughout the year, you can bird watch or even perhaps catch glimpses of seal pups or gray whales in its cool, clean waters.   These are unfortunately not beaches warm enough for sunbathing, and waves here can be normal-sized 1 minute and enormous the next.   So if you do decide to venture into the waters, be wary of those sleeper waves that can really take you for a ride.
