7 Day Itinerary in CancunEdit This
Spending a week in Cancun? Then you're going to need a 7-day Cancun Itinerary.
Day 1: Beach Day
Spend the first day of your week soaking up the sun and enjoying the beautiful beaches that Cancun is famous for. The beaches in Cancun have recently been remade to their original splendor by dredging ocean bed sand and tossing it onto the beach. After being hit by a massive hurricane the beaches in Cancun were all but wiped out, but thanks to modern technology they have been expanded by 50 meters. So, enjoy the beautiful white sand for a day, after all that's why you are here!
Day 2: Chichen Itza
While in Mexico, visit one of the 7 wonders of the world, the ruins of Chichen Itza. These ruins were one of the major sites in the Mayan Empire and remains to this day one of the most extensive collections of Mayan ruins. There are guides available to explain the significance of the ruins to the ancient Mayan Empire. While there, you will have the opportunity to purchase souvenirs at the market. Also, experience the dancers of Papantla, a group of performers who leap off a giant pole. Allow all day for the trip, and wear plenty of sunscreen as you will be outside all day long.
Day 3: Xcaret
On Day 3 you will visit the largest theme park in all of Latin America. The park boasts of Mexican culture, beautiful lagoons, a nightly show, and lots of animals. This excursion will keep you occupied day until night as it is an hour away from Cancun and the nightly show doesn't finish until 9 p.m.
Day 4: Playa Del Carmen
Playa Del Carmen is a great city only an hour's drive from Cancun. Boasting a totally different experience than Cancun, Playa Del Carmen is an multicultural city, and one of the fastest growing cities in the world. Its beautiful beaches will provide you with plenty of photo opportunities. Spend the day walking down 5th Avenue and looking through the many shops that line the streets. Enjoy lunch in one of the many great restaurants on 5th Avenue or directly on the beach.
Day 5: Snorkeling in Akumal and Cenotes
Travel to the town of Akumal where they have a public turtle
reserve. Rent some snorkel equipment and see the turtles in the natural
habitat. Visit the information center to find out all the conservation
projects that they have created. After that, go across the highway and
visit one of the many cenotes. Cenotes are caves that are filled with freshwater and are
great for swimming and snorkeling and are part of an underground
connected system of caves that spans 140 km, making it the largest in
Day 6: Merida
On Day 6 you will head to Merida. Only a short drive from Cancun, this colonial city offers its visitors a glimpse into real Mexico, and its culture, music, dancing and food.
Day 7: Swimming with Dolphins
Day 7 will offer you the opportunity of a lifetime--a chance to swim with dolphins. This excursion will teach you about dolphins and gives you the opportunity to get in the water and swim with them.
