Shopping in Montreal

Edit This

Montreal is an ideal place for shopping as the city has got plenty of malls, markets and boutiques for the shopaholic. The major 3 areas for Montreal Shopping are Old Montreal, the Underground City and the Latin Quarter.

Old Montreal

Old Montreal is the place for those who love to hop from store to store and enjoy the window shopping as much as the actual shopping experience. The Cobblestone Rue St. Paul has got shops, galleries and restaurants lined up on both the sides.  There are a number of souvenir shops along this road and there is an array of shops selling almost everything from handicrafts to materials for apparel here. Therefore, you can walk around and choose different variety of clothing or souvenir with ease.

Vieux Montreal,Marche Bonsecours with its glittery silver dome is definitely one of the most gorgeous buildings of Montreal and home to a number of great shops. The ground floor market was once upon a time a farmer’s market, but now it holds various boutiques and restaurants. This market offers you great deals in furniture, clothing and crafts.

Underground City

Montreal stays covered under snow for long periods in winter and it is almost impossible to go out for a shopping in those months. The famous “Underground City" of Montreal will provide you all season shopping experience in Montreal.  When it is freezing cold outside, the underground tunnels which join the shopping malls make your shopping experience even better and unique. The underground city tunnels and passageways are spread across over 30 km. In the underground city you can virtually find anything. Every kind of shop is somewhere in the underground tunnel. There are a great number of shopping complexes like The Eaton Centre, Cours Mont Royal, Complex Les Ailes and Place Ville Marie.

Sainte-Catherine’s Street is the main shopping area of Montreal. Almost all major international brands have presence here. Every year in the month of July the merchants of Sainte-Catherine's Street hold a big sidewalk sale. If you are visiting Montreal around that time of the year, then you should visit Saint-Catherine’s Street. You will find great things at relatively low prices. It is the best place in Montreal to buy designer clothes, cosmetics and food.

Quartier Latin (Latin Quarter)

The Latin Quarter is the best place for shopping fashionable clothes and jewelry. St Laurent Street is famous for trendy fashion items. You will find styles much ahead of the season here. Shops selling coats, jeans, casuals, sweater, club wear and shoes are all over the street. St-Denis Street is famous for stone jewelry. Here you will find wonderful natural stone jewelry. Turquoise, coral, agate and hematite are the most commonly used stones in the jewelry sold here. Prices are also reasonable. Located west of St-Denis Street, Mont Royal Avenue is a great place for vintage clothing. If you like to buy unique clothing as souvenirs then you must come here.
