Finding recreation in Montreal is easy no matter what the season is. The city is packed full of exciting recreation that the entire family can take part in. With beautiful Olympic venues and a lavish landscape the city of Montreal offers both indoor and outdoor recreation year round.

Summer Recreation

Montreal is a very cosmopolitan place but there is plenty of greenery to enjoy. With 450 miles of bike paths, roller blading and biking are popular during the summer.     Visitors can enjoy the beauty of Mount Royal, the mountain at Montreal’s core or go rock climbing at Allez-Up.

Montreal has a number of municipal parks and nature preserves along the Riviere des Prairie. The city has an eclectic mix of forest, wetlands and beautiful shoreline to explore.

Fall Beauty

Montreal boasts a breathtaking fall display of color. Red, yellow and brown leaves fill the green spaces of the city making Cap-Saint-Jacques to Jean-Drapeau wonderful places to stroll and take in the view.

Winter Recreation

Montreal experiences cold winters with heavy snowfall. This makes it the perfect destination for cross-country and downhill skiing trips. The Laurentian Mountains to the north of the city provide excellent skiing conditions and the numerous city parks are great for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

Hockey and Ice Skating

Hockey and ice-skating are national pastimes in Canadia. A trip to see the Montreal Canadiens, the city's historic hockey team is a must.  Buy tickets for games early.  Sellout crowds are the norm.  During both the winter and summer months ice rinks and frozen ponds serve are excellent spots for recreational ice-skating.

Dog Sledding

Recreational dog sledding is increasing in popularity in Montreal. Guides handle the sleds and dog sledding tours begin at Jacques-Cartier Pier. Sleigh rides are also available in this area.

Golf

Club de Golf le Victorien is a relatively new golf course about 40 minutes from the heart of Montreal. The course spans 7003 yards and has an elegant clubhouse full of friendly staff eager to serve visitors.

Cruise

Visitors can go to the Quai Jacques-Cartier and take a relaxing cruise around Montreal’s impressive waterfront. Travel in a bateau mouche, a Parisan-styled boat for a dinner cruise or a 90 minute cruise during the day.

Walking Tours

Montreal has exciting ghost and vampire walking tours and traditional walking tours in Old Montreal. Hunt for ghosts on Friday night or get an education on the history of the older part of the city.
