Day Trips in TorontoEdit This
Toronto, also known as Golden Horseshoe--due to the shape of Lake Ontario’s shoreline--has a lot to offer as attractions for Toronto day trips. You have a choice of destinations, all within a comfortable drive of 2-4 hours. From the breath-taking spectacle of Niagara Falls, there are so many possibilities for day trips that it will be tough to choose one over the other.
Following are only a few of the day-trips that will transport you to natural scenic wonders like Niagara or Ontario lakeside.
Southwest of Toronto, about an-hour-and-a- half’s drive, is Niagara Falls, one of the wonders of the world. You can spend days enjoying the various special tours to fully enjoy Niagara Falls, like a Maid of the Mist boat ride to the base of Horseshoe falls. Driving through the Queen Elizabeth Highway parallel to the lake is a delightful experience.
Stratford & Mennonite Country
Travelling northwest of Toronto, you get to see many beautiful places, all within a 2-3 hour drive from Toronto. These include St. Jacob country’s towns and villages--known as Mennonite country--and places like Elora and Elmira on the Grand River. Nearby is Stratford, famous for the Stratford Festival. There is even a village called Shakespeare. Market days draw a lot of visitors.
Prince Edward County
This beautiful island is on the south-eastern side of Ontario extending into Ontario Lake. The place is famous for scenic beauty and mega-size sand banks and water sports like sailing and fishing on lake-shores. Pollution free with wide open spaces, this is a nice place for relaxing and enjoying a cool lake-side scenario. There are some pretty looking wineries nearby.
Niagara Wine Region
En route to Niagara Falls, a visit to the Niagara-on-the-Lake is a must with visits to the famous orchards and the dozens of wineries. Crystal Beach and Bay Beach on Lake Erie are beautiful beaches and a star attraction for weekend visitors. There are theme parks, historic towns, museums and so many scenic attractions like Bruce Trail on Niagara Escarpment in this region. Niagara-on-the-Lake connects the Niagara Falls through a beautiful parkway. You can take a detour and visit the Royal Botanical Garden.
