Family Travel Ideas in Niagara fallsEdit This
Niagara Falls is a naturally family friendly place, so the huge amount of family friendly attractions in the area is really no surprise.
Exploring the Falls
One of the main activities that you must check out while in Niagara Falls is a ride on the famous Maid of the Mist , a boat that will take you close to the base of the falls. This attraction offers you and your family an incredible and up-close view of each of the waterfalls--the American Falls, the Bridal Veil Falls, and the Horseshoe Falls. Despite the rain poncho given to you before you get on the Maid of the Mist, you´ll definitely get soaked due to the overwhelming mist given off as the water crashes on the rocks below. Both kids and adults will be thrilled by this trip. Tickets cost $14.50 Canadian dollars for adults and $8.90 for kids, which is a bit pricey, but worth every cent.
Journey Behind the Falls is another exhilarating Niagara Falls adventure that you can share with your children. You´ll be taken down 150 feet in an elevator to a network of tunnels behind the Horseshoe Falls. The tunnels lead out to 2 different observation areas, 1 with a side view of the falls and the other with a view of the falls from behind, where you can watch the heavy water fall and crash upon the rocks. It is a spectacular sight even in winter, when you can observe the various ice formations at the base of the Horseshoe Falls.
Gardens and Butterflies
There are other beautiful sights to be seen in Niagara Falls besides the falls themselves. The Botanical Garden, created in 1936, is filled with gorgeous, colorful flowers, ornamental plants, ponds, and winding, tranquil paths. It is a vibrant area of natural beauty, known particularly for its extensive and lush rose garden. Admission is free.
Within the Botanical Garden is the butterfly conservatory. After watching a brief educational video about the butterflies, you walk into the conservatory and see them for yourself. Over 2,000 brightly colored butterflies fly all around you as you explore their lush, humid garden home. The flowers and plants are just as interesting and beautiful to observe as the butterflies. The entrance fee is $11.50 Canadian dollars for adults and $6.80 for kids. On the way out, you and your family can stop at the small gift shop to purchase some unique butterfly themed souvenirs.
