Kawartha Lakes Travel GuideEdit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see
The city of Kawartha Lakes is located in east-central Ontario. Although designated as a city, it is largely a rural area. The municipality is named after the Kawartha lakes, which themselves are from the anglicized kawatha, shortened from gaa-waategamaag, meaning "shining waters". The 'r' was eventually added for pronunciation reasons.
The main population centres are Bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls, Lindsay, Omemee, Lindsay, Woodville and Norland, although the municipality also includes many smaller communities as well.
Kawartha Lakes is one of Ontario's cottage areas with its many lakes and cottages located on them.
