Be One
Edit ThisBe One is a traditinal Korean barbeque restaurant. The front entrance is very non-descript and hides what is waiting for you when you enter! Upon opening the front door, we were greeted by smiling wait staff who welcomed us. We were shown into a large dining area with traditional wood decor, nice music and a lovely aroma.
The table was set neatly, with monogrammed napkins folded around steel chopsticks and a spoon all resting on a ceramic duck. Our server was very friendly, noted correctly that we had never been there before. He then proceeded to take us through the menu, describing and suggesting the dishes. When asked he gave very good descriptions of dishes and encouraged the table to try spicy ones!
After our drinks were served, traditional Hite beer for the boys, the ladies shared a Korean wine named Longevity wine, we orderd. First came our 3 appetizers. Spicy octupus (3 flames), tempura shrimp and glass noodles. All three were excellent! then came the 2 entrees, tableside. First the spicy beef barbeque. This was served with rice in individual bowls, plus sides of cucumber salad, kimchee, bean sprout salad, potato salad, miso paste, and lettuce leaves. The beef was marinated for no less than 2 days. A gas steno burner was brought to the table and a cast iron skillet. The beef was cooked at the table along with mushrooms and onion. The idea is to make a wrap with a lettuce leaf, the beef and any side you like! The second entree was the hotpot, containing spicy beef and squid. Again the same procedure at the table.
The whole experience is meant for sharing.
