Wildlife

Edit This
British Columbia offers an incredible variety of wildlife viewing opportunities. Travelling through the province to explore its natural history could fill an entire trip with adventure and beauty.

Please do not feed any wildlife anywhere in the province, either in city parks or in the countryside. Fed animals develop a dependence on humans and lose their fear of approaching people. Fed animals start approaching humans, people make complaints, and the animal is usually destroyed. Keep the animals alive, don't feed them.

Whales

Edit This

The waters of British Columbia support healthy populations of grey, humpback and killer whales. Many communities along the coast have benefited through eco-tourism focussing on whale watching tours. These tours are normally available throughout the year, but the whales are most likely to be seen during the spring and summer months.

The grey whale migration is celebrated from March 17 to April 1 annually through various events in Tofino, Ucluelet and Pacific Rim National Park. For more information visit Pacific Rim Whale Festival

Bears

Edit This

Grizzly bears truly symbolize the wild spaces of British Columbia. Grizzlies dominate the habitats that they live in (all mountainous and coastal regions of the province) and should be treated with great respect. These bears can weigh as much as 1000 pounds and can outrun most humans. Do not feed wildlife by doing something silly like approaching a grizzly. Some operators are establishing special tours to bring visitors within viewing range of grizzlies in the wild. For information on one such tour operation, visit Bear Tours
