Muttart Conservatory
Edit This
The Muttart is one of the easily recongized parts of Edmonton's
skyline. Just south of the North Saskatchewan River, one can't
help but notice it's four distinct glass pyramids, each hosting it's
own ecosystem.
The three "static" pyramids are the main attraction. The Tropical Pyramid is full of lush plantlife, a warm and humid escape from Edmonton's cold and dry winters. The Arid Pyramid shows the desert landscapes around the world, including various types of cacti. The Temperate Pyramid is a host of colours, with trees reaching up to touch the top of the pyramid. Each ecosystem is a delight to wander through, and includes information about where the plants come from, and the types of animals and insects that are also found in the original habitat.
The fourth pyramid, the "Show" pyramid, changes every couple of months, to show plants that are appropriate for the season.
The grounds around the pyramids are also a beautiful place to walk through and have a picnic.
Tours can be arranged by request.
