Hotels Intro in BanffEdit This
Banff is one of Canada's most popular tourist destinations, and there are hundreds of hotels from which to choose. Banff hotels range from small, budget-friendly locations to historic and picturesque luxury hotels. Most hotels in Banff are located within walking distance from the core downtown area. Sometimes the walking distance may be longer than desired, so there is also a bus system that operates frequently and connects most parts of town.
Fairmont Banff Springs
The Fairmont Banff Springs was modeled after a castle, and opened to the public in 1888. The hotel was the beginning of Banff's appeal as a tourist destination. Although the room rates are not for everyone, the Fairmont is one of those hotels that is a destination unto itself. Non-guests visit to peek at the architecture or to admire the views. The hotel offers no fewer than five restaurants and a wine bar, an 18-hole golf course, a fitness center, and a spa.
The Fox Hotel and Suites is located on Banff Avenue near the heart of downtown. Also on Banff Avenue is the Delta Royal Canadian Mountain Lodge, which is one of many hotels to offer underground parking. Slightly more budget-friendly hotels with Banff Avenue addresses are the Rundlestone Lodge and Charlton's Cedar Court. Rundlestone Lodge offers four suites in addition to 92 rooms. Charlton's Cedar Court is a sister hotel to the Delta Royal, and also offers suite accommodations.
Outskirts of Town
Hidden Ridge Resort is located on Tunnel Mountain Road, and provides more privacy than some of the in-town options. The condos offer full kitchens. It is a sister hotel to the Fox Hotel and Suites, part of the Banff Lodging Company which operates multiple hotels in Banff. Also on Tunnel Mountain Road is the Douglas Fir Resort and Chalet. They offer a range of room or chalet styles and sizes, some of which have full kitchens.
There are plenty of campgrounds to choose from, with the Tunnel Mountain areas being the closest to town. These campgrounds are accessible by Banff's bus system. The campgrounds fill up quickly.
Hostelling International manages the HI Banff Alpine Centre, located just outside of town on Tunnel Mountain Road. It offers modern accommodations, activities, a restaurant, and a pub. Private rooms with bathrooms are also available. Members will receive slightly discounted pricing.
