Little Tobago Island

Also known as Bird of Paradise Island, Little Tobago is a small uninhabited island located just in front of Speyside on the east coast of Tobago. It is a protected bird sanctuary - in fact, it is one of the most important seabird sanctuaries in the Caribbean - where David Attenborough filmed his famous BBC documentary, Trials of Life. Here, species like the frigate bird, the red-billed tropic bird, the brown boobies and the bridled terns can be viewed in their natural habitat. Being ideal for bird watchers and nature lovers, Little Tobago also offers good opportunities for hiking and astonishing views of Tobago island.

Hotels, dive centres and tour operators around Speyside organize trips to Little Tobago and you can opt to either explore the island by yourself or have an experienced guide with you.  The latter is recommended, so you can get to know the island’s history and fully grasp its native flora and fauna. Trips can also be arranged with local fishermen.
