The Royal Botanical Gardens located in both Hamilton and Burlington is Canada's largest botanical garden, incorporating both untamed and cultivated landscapes.

The RBG include the following: the RBG Centre, the Rock Garden, Lilac Garden (world's largest collection of Lilacs), Hendrie Garden, Hendrie Valley Sanctuary, Rose Garden, Laking Garden, Arboretum, Nature Interpretive Centre, Rock Chapel Sanctuary, Cootes Paradise Sanctuary and Princess Point.

There is parking at all locations or visitors can hop on the shuttle bus to travel to the various centres.

Joseph Brant Museum

Joseph Brant Museum is a reconstruction of the home of one of Canada's colourful heroes, Captain Joseph Brant (Chief Thayendanegea). In 1798 the Mohawk Leader was granted 3,450 acres on Burlington Bay by King George III for his services to the Crown during the Seven Years War and the American Revolution. The museum is a replica of Joseph Brant's original home and was built in 1937/38 and opened its doors in June, 1942 as a one-room exhibit gallery. Today the museum has more than 2,200 square feet of exhibit space and houses more than 10,000 more..

Ireland House Museum at Oakridge Farm

Built between 1835-1837, Ireland House was the home of Joseph Ireland, one of Burlington's earliest settlers. He emigrated from Bowes, Yorkshire, England in 1819 at the age of 27 and petitioned for land at Oakridge Farm.

Ireland House was occupied by Joseph and his descendants up until 1985. In 1987, the City of Burlington purchased the property from the estate of Lucie Marie Ireland Bush.

Spencer Smith Park is the centrepiece of Burlington's Waterfront The land for this park was originally part of a parcel granted to the Mohawk leader Joseph Brant, in recognition of his service to The British Crown during the American Revolution.

During the 19th century and into the 20th, Lakeshore Road was immediately adjacent to Lake Ontario. There was no protection from storms, and waves frequently washed over the road, threatening nearby property. In 1939 the federal government stepped in and built a seawall.
