Edit ThisThe Helsinki Tourist Information Centre hands out excellent books of walks [in English] with good maps. They also issue a multi-lingual guide on what to look out for from the 3T tram, a figure of eight route that passes many points of interest.
Sibelius memorial
This fabulous sight can easily be combined with a visit to the outdoor museum and/or included in one of the walks. Alternatively it can be reached by no 4 tram or bus 24. The coastal and inland scenery all around is extremely attractive.
Suomenlinna
Edit ThisSuomenlinna is a UNESCO world heritage site at the coast of Helsinki. Suomenlinna is an old sea fortress and the biggest of its kind in whole Europe. Suomenlinna is built on four different islands connected by bridges. It was build by the king of Sweden to protect Sweden against Russians. There is a scheduled ferry connection to Suomenlinna from the market square about every 30 minutes per hour daily. A couple of hundred people also live in Suomenlinna.

Olympic Stadium
Edit ThisThe Olympic Stadium, completed in 1938, was the main venue of the XV Olympic Games in 1952. The 72 metres high tower offers an excellent view over Helsinki.

Kauppatori Market Square

Kauppatori Market Square is located downtown on the harbor. It is livley and colorful area with local fresh produce, freshly caught fish and local handicrafts.

Temppeliaukio Church (Rock Church)

Temppeliaukio Church or the Church of the Rock is carved out of solid rock. This is a working church but also is one of Helsinki's most popular tourist attractions. Its roof is a copper dome which spans 70 feet. Its acoustics are very good, thus the church also is used as a concert hall.

Senate Square

Senate Square is located downtown Helsinki near the waterfront. The Government Palace, The Lutheran Cathedral, University buildings and Library surround the Square, while boutiques and restaurants also are located here.
