Oerol

Every year in mid june, there is the eccentric festival called Oerol ('everywhere', in dialect). Site-specific theatre and theatre on location, shed theatre, street theatre, modern dance, opera, visual art, music and the many crossovers between all of these are the ingredients for a festival that uses the island as a giant stage.
The festival has a long and rich tradition. Over a period of more than twenty years, the festival has grown from a small street festival into a highly valued, multi-disciplinary festival. Be sure to catch it when you're around.
Due to the popularity (50.000 people visit the festival) camping is the only last-minute option. Most accommodations are booked a year in advance (!) It's the most 'crowded' week of the year. And even then, you can walk or cycle around for hours without seeing other people.
