Now relatively affordable accommodations are available in Yerevan like hostels, 2-3 star hotels. It is generally accepted idea that hotel prices in Yerevan are expensive, but when you have the chance to compare the prices in the neighboring countries like Georgia, you'll see that prices in Armenia are uncomparably lower. Anyway, Armenia is not a strong touristic destination yet, and it mainly caters to business travellers.

Simple but comfortable rooms, gym, great pool, bar, and nice Italian food. Perhaps the best mid-range hotel in Yerevan. A short walk to Republic Square, dance clubs, strip bars, and the French, Italian, and Russian embassies and a 4000 dram cab ride to the airport (taxis available 24-7 at the door). At 60 to 80 USD per night not for everyone but a very nice place at reasonable rates.

Hotel Shirak

Right in the center of town, this big hotel has all the facilities you could ask for, including a sauna (only free for VIP room dwellers) and the cheepest mini-bar in the city. From the higher floors, you have an excelent view of the city against the dramatic background of mount Arrarat.

As hotels in Yerevan are very expensive many travellers opt for home stays with local ladies or families. Maybe the most popular among backpackers is Mrs. Anahit Stepanyan. She lives at the uppermost floor of the building, she can accommodate up to 7 people and she speaks both English and Russian. The price is 8$ (can be payable in drams) per person per night. The location is very central, near the opera building and in case of good weather conditions you can see Mt. Ararat from her flat.
