Thane Travel Guide
Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and seeThane, an ancient city, is making history again. It was once a very
important fort for Shivaji and today it is fast emerging as a transport
hub and preferred home for thousands of Mumbaikars. Says Madhav Natu,
partner, Natu Paranjpe Builders, “Thane has become more accessible both
by railway, and by road. It is very safe and you can reach here at any
time of day or night. The infrastructure development, especially the
widening of the roads has shortened commute time and given the city a
new breath of life.”
Thane was once just a city bordering Thane creek with a few settlements here and there, but mostly jungle. Today, projects are sold out even before they are constructed. The city is spreading and growing in all directions.
It is also because certain faraway pockets of Thane no longer face the frequent power cuts and water problems. Thanks to Niranjan Hiranandani whose foresight and efforts have lead to the infrastructure development of the Ghodbundar strip. A place once inaccessible now takes only 15 minutes to reach from Thane station! Being a terminus, trains start and end here. Thane station now boasts eight platforms, seven of which are operational with all the important south-bound long-distance trains also halting here. When the eighth platform is added, it will become bigger even than Chhattrapati Shivaji Terminus!
