Edit ThisStart your San Francisco vacation with a tour of the 49-Mile Drive marked with blue-and-white seagull signs, which pepper the route connecting all-important sights in San Francisco. They do this, at least, when they're still there; many visitors think they function better as a souvenir in their living room rather than as a signpost in The City.
Stroll down Fisherman's Wharf, one of "The City's" liveliest neighborhoods, and have a look at the harbor and the fishing boats. Here you'll find the barking sea lions and some of the city's most unique museums. Here you'll also find Pier 39, which offers many shops, street performers, and the San Francisco Aquarium. Another excellent San Francisco activity is a climb to the top of Telegraph Hill. For $3.75, you can continue in the elevator to the top of Coit Tower and enjoy some stunning views of San Francisco’s skyline. Don't forget to cross the famous Golden Gate Bridge or take the ferry to Alcatraz Island, a now defunct federal prison, which is one of the more interesting sites of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

Golden Gate Bridge
Edit ThisGolden Gate Bridge
The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge, built between the city of San Francisco on the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula and Sausalito on the Marin County headlands. The construction of the bridge began on January 5, 1933 under the aegis of the Works Projects Administration (WPA), a program instigated by Franklin Delano Roosevelt to create public works through federal funds and alleviate the effects of the Great Depression. It was completed in April 1937 and opened to pedestrians on May 27 of that year. Vehicular travel started the following day.

Chinatown
Edit ThisSan Francisco's Chinatown is the largest outside of Asia. The southern entrance to Chinatown is marked by a dragon-topped gate at the corner of Grant and Bush. Start your tour of Chinatown with a picture of you near one of the stone lions at the base of the gate.
The first Chinese arrived in San Francisco in 1848. In the 1850s, Chinese merchants began converging in the area that is now Chinatown. Tourism was a booming business in Chinatown as early as the 1860s. In the 1870s, more Chinese immigrants arrived to work on the transcontinental railroad and racism against more..

Edit ThisCoit tower
The coit
memorial tower was erected in 1933. The decoration of the interior in
Fresco was authorized as a public works of art project and undertaken
by the artists of san fransisco and completed in 1934.
It
is a matter of historical record that the Coit Tower art project was
the prototype for the decade of the New Deal art that followed, 1933-43,
halted finally by World War II. Utilizing carefully selected artistic
talent, the project provided an iconography of the "American Scene"
for the largest of all the art programs at more..

Bernal Hill Park
Edit ThisJust south of the Mission is Bernal Heights -- and one of the best parts of Bernal Heights is its park. A hill juts high into the air and is closed off to traffic for hiking, walking dogs, and enjoying the draw-dropping 360-degree view of San Francisco and its surroundings. It's easy to drive up Folsom St. from Army/Caesar Chavez, just a few blocks, and you'll see cars parked on the side of the road. Get out and walk around and be sure to bring your camera for the very best views in the city! (And it's not known or over-run by tourists, the way more..

Fillmore Street
Edit ThisThe Fillmore neighborhood of San Francisco is not an "official" neighborhood, but the term is used by many locals to describe the area. Fillmore Street stretches from the Marina Green at the tip of the peninsula to Duboce Street just above Market. However, most people use the term the Fillmore to refer to the area along Fillmore between Jackson Street in Pacific Heights and Golden Gate in the Western Addition. The Fillmore encompasses both one of the most affluent neighborhoods in San Francisco as well as one of the least affluent. Fillmore enjoys some of San Francisco's more..

Edit ThisFort Point & Golden Gate Bridge
San Francisco Fort Point is located at the tip of the San Francisco Presidio and beneath the arch of the southern end of the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge.
Fort Point is only open Friday through Sunday due to retrofit construction on the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge. Even if the fort itself is not open, it's still worth a visit to the site to get a good look at the underbelly of the bridge. If you walk out to the very tip of the fort (where the fence prevents you from going around to the other side), you can look down into the water and see the location where Jimmy more..
