Haarlem can be reached by air via the nearby Amsterdam Schipol International Airport. Haarlem can be reached from the airport by catching a local bus. Alternatively regular trains run from the Haarlem train station to Amsterdam.

Haarlem is a well known shopping area and has been voted as the top shopping city in the Netherlands. Anegang and Gierstraat street are popular shopping areas. Market square holds a market twice a week where visitors can buy local produce. Schalkwijk Shopping Mall is another option. There are many shops selling souvenirs and visitors can see the workshops of clockmakers and goldsmiths.
