bigger city. The city of Haarlem was founded in the 10th century and

work is exhibited at the Frans Hals Museum.

There are many different accommodation options ranging from expensive to budget options. Luxury hotels can be found in the city center or in the nearby town of Zandvoort. Staying in Haarlem is a quieter option to staying in Amsterdam and it still allows easy access to nearby attractions.
Attractions
Nestled at the center of the city is Grote Markt which is surrounded by fascinating architecture reflecting both a Gothic and Renaissance style. Sites in the Grote Markt area include the Stadhuis and Laurens Coster statue. During the springtime tourists can be delighted by the sight of hundreds of tulips as tulips are an important part of the local economy. Sint-Bravo Cathedral is a religious site located in Haarlem.
Museums include the Teylers museum which is the oldest museum in the country.
Festivals
The International Organ Festival is held in Haarlem around June every year for 3 weeks. This festival is centered around the organ in St Bavo's Church which both Mozart and Handel played. International musicians play the organ during the festival.
Transport
Haarlem can be reached by air via the nearby Amsterdam Schipol International Airport. Haarlem can be reached from the airport by catching a local bus. Alternatively regular trains run from the Haarlem train station to Amsterdam.

Haarlem is a well known shopping area and has been voted as the top shopping city in the Netherlands. Anegang and Gierstraat street are popular shopping areas. Market square holds a market twice a week where visitors can buy local produce. Schalkwijk Shopping Mall is another option. There are many shops selling souvenirs and visitors can see the workshops of clockmakers and goldsmiths.
