Newton is an affluent suburb, directly west of Boston, and home to numerous shops, restaurants, and sights of its own. The city is one of the safest in the country, year after year, and is made up of many smaller villages, each of which is like a town of its own. Its many parks are great for both summer and winter sports. Boston College is actually located in the Chestnut Hill section of town, just on the border with Boston. The Boston Marathon's most notorious stretch, the famed Heartbreak Hill is in Newton as well, and the wide median of Commonwealth Avenue is a great place to watch the race in April. Route 9 in Chestnut Hill has a huge variety of upscale shops and fine restaurants, also.
