There are several events that highlight the small-town flavor of this sleepy midwestern community of Oxford, Kansas.  The biggest event is the Lions Club Watermelon Feed.  But there are also Christmas in the Country and the Oxford Fourth of July Celebration.

Oxford Lions Club Watermelon Feed

Edit This

The Lions Club Watermelon Feed is a small-town event with big fun every year the first Saturday after Labor Day.  Starting off the day, there is a parade.  No Macy´s Parade here.  This is hometown realism -- floats made on the backs of hay truck beds with lots of crepe paper and magic marker signs, children riding their bikes or marching in the band, beauty pageant winners from Oxford and nearby communities riding in the back of classic convertable automobiles.  This is the fabric of the midwest.

After the parade, everyone drives or more..

Christmas in the Country

Edit This

Christmas in the Country is the way the community of Oxford kicks of the Christmas season.  Kansans and Oklahomans visit the town for the weekend event with Christmas shops, Christmas music and caroling, crafts, demonstations, horse drawn buggy rides and local home tours.
