Getting There
Edit This
Under the growing threat of Islamic extremists and illegal labour, the UAE has begun to close its open borders with Oman. The Buraimi Border near the city of Al Ain is now only open to GCC Nationals. Another border near Hilli industrial area some 8 kilometers away and near the camel market can be crossed only by those with valid UAE visas. Delays can exceed an hour depending of time of day. Interestingly there are a number of invisible border crossings to Buraimi via Hatta, Mahda on the Dubai road and on the road past the Al Ain Intercon hotel which still provide open access to Buraimi. We are advised that many other borders in other areas like Fujairah, Daid etc will also be subject to visa controls. To enter and exit Oman you will need a multiple entry UAE visa, not a standard one.
