Approximately 8 miles southeast of Rochester in the town of Pittsford you will find a harbor to the famous Erie Canal. The historic canal was the original highway of the early 19th. century prior to the railroad boon. Explore its many shops and restaunts, relax on the dock or take a ride on the canal aboard one of the many tour boats and follow the route used by barges of commerce over 100 years ago. Interestingly. in a time gone by, the canal actually flowed over the Genesee River through the heart of Downtown Rochester on an aqueduct that was later converted to what is now the Broad Street Brdge.
