Island and county including Holyhead in North Wales connected to mainland Wales and the county of Gwynedd by two bridges; Britannia and Menai (or Porthaethwy) Bridges.

In Welsh it is called Ynys Mon.

When the Romans invaded Britain, this was the last refuge and strong point of the Druids, priests of the pre-Roman pagan religion. Eventually the Romans waded across the narrow Menai Straits and defeated them.

However on Anglesey Roman history is almost modern. Tie island abounds in neolithic burial sites.
