Turriff - red-sandstone market town, once known as ‘Torbruad’ created a burgh of barony in 1511 by James IV. Turriff’s original Mercat cross was erected shortly after in 1512 signifying the town’s right to have a market. The present 20 foot high cross was erected in 1865 and is made from red sandstone and is a far superior cross to the original one. Once a centre for feeing in Buchan.
