Dunvegan Travel Guide
Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and seeDunvegan is set on a sea loch between the peninsulas of Vaternish and Duirnish. It is located some 20 miles from Portree. One reason visitors come here is to visit the MacLeod castle up on a hill just outside of town, but there several other attractions in the area such as MacLeod's Tables, the artisans and craftsmen at nearby villages like Edinbane, and the world-renowned cuisine down the road at the Three Chimneys Restaurant.
You don't have to be related to the Clan MacLeod to appreciate the castle. Although it was partly rebuilt in the 19th century the medieval outline of the fortress is still quite clear. Inside is a museum with a few important relics of the famility such as the Fairy Flag and the Dunvegan Horn. The gardens of the castle are well tended and a great place to sit back and relax.
In summer it is also possible to take a boat and visit the colonies of seals who live on the small islands just off the coast.
