Nightlife and Entertainment in Renfrew
Edit ThisRenfrew is a small Scottish town located six miles west of Glasgow. Renfrew nightlife is certainly not as diverse and exciting as the larger cities in Scotland, but like most places you can have a good time if you know where to look. Many students from the nearby University of Western Scotland spend their nights in the Renfrew area and can often be found dancing in the clubs or having a pint in a pub.
Fury Murry's club, known as "Fury's" to the locals, is located
about two miles southwest of Renfrew in the town of Paisley. It's one
of the few clubs in the area and is usually populated by the younger
crowd than the local pubs. At this club they play all types of music
from Nirvana to Stevie Wonder, but usually throw some good dance tunes
in as well. Vienna's club, also in Paisley, is another good dance spot
that is packed on the weekends and its clientele is a good cross section
of the town's population.
Pubs and Bars
Cross Keys is a pretty basic Scottish pub located on Paisley
Road in downtown Renfrew. Though nothing special, it is frequented by
locals and would be a good place to start the night to get a feel for
area. Down the street from Cross Keys is the Wallace Bar, which is
another standard Scottish pub. They serve classic Scottish dishes and
usually show a football match on the television. Located down the road
from Renfrew in Paisley is The Crow Bar, which is the only live rock venue in
the area. The Crow Bar has several inexpensive drink specials
throughout the week. Depending on when you visit you may find an open
mic night, a bar quiz, a pool competition or even movie nights. Though
not a party spot, The Crow Bar would be a great place to spend a night
while on the Renfrew nightlife scene. The Bull Inn, located in the heart
of Paisley, is the oldest pub in the area and has retained most of its
original features. The Bull Inn has good specials on pints and
traditional Scottish meals, such as a meat pie, and would be a good
place for dinner and a drink.
Entertainment
There are several cinemas in the area including the ODEON Braehead in Renfrew and Showcase cinema in Paisley. The cinemas show the newest movies and would be a good place to spend a slow weekday night in the Renfrew area.Contributors
