Greyfriars
Edit ThisKnown for the statue of Bobby, the dog that sat next to his master's grave for 14 years. The graveyard exhales a solemn atmosphere, not in the least because of the Grey Friars Kirk in the middle and the lack of any sort of modern influence. The grave of Bobby can be found in front of the church (not in the real graveyard, where the grave of his master John Gray can be found), and Bobby's grave will always have fresh flowers and toys, because he is a much loved character. Some of the family graves have beautiful decorations.
If you want to experience the places where the story took place, start your exploration at Greenmarket (where Bobby walked the round with his master) and continue your walk along Candlemaker row to the Greyfriars Pub on no. 34 (where Bobby was looked after, after the death of his master), with the statue in front of the pub, and into the graveyard, where both Bobby and his master rest.
Disney made 2 movies Greyfriars Bobby (the modern version is more truthful) and even "Challenge to Lassie" was based on this famous story.
