The golf course was opened in 1899 thanks to the Great North of Scotland Railway who had opened a palace like hotel in Cruden Bay (Now demolished). Cruden Bay is claimed to be one of the best links courses in Scotland. It is also claimed that golf was first played here as early as 1791.
