Martin Mere is a reserve owned by the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust near Burscough, West

Lancashire. Its 'permanent' stock of captive foreign birds can be seen at any time of year but

 it is most exciting in winter when hundreds , literally, of migrating Whooper and Bewick's

swans arrive from Siberia along with numerous types of migrating ducks and geese.
