Sights in Coniston

Edit This
It seems odd that in a district with so many natural lakes people should flock to see an artificial tarn [small lake] but Tarn Hows, owned by the National Trust, is one of lakeland's most popular views. The roads are so narrow that they have become one-way and there is an easy walk around the tarn, which is surrounded by peaks.

Brantwood

Edit This

John Ruskin lived all his later life at Brantwood. He possibly thought he was paying too much for a rather dilapidated property but reckoned it to be the best situated house in the whole country for its views.

His tastes in the refurbishing and furnishing of the house reflected his closeness to the Art and Crafts Movement and the house is now still full of his original furniture, feeling much as though it were still his home.

It is on the Eastern side of Coniston Water.
