Lincoln is much more popular in the summer months because of it's climate except for December when the Christmas market is in full swing.
Historic Buildings
The Lincoln Cathedral is an Anglican one that was built in 1300. The building is covered in many stone carvings one of which is the famous Lincoln Imp. There are legends surrounding the imp that you can still find on a pillar in the cathedral. One is that two evil imps went to antagonize the Lincoln Cathedral. An angel came to stop them in the Angel Choir and while one escaped he was able to turn one into stone and that's where you can still find him today. The Lincoln Castle is another site to see. It's a castle that was built in the 11th century and was used as a prison which had public hangings up until 1868. Today it is a public museum for everyone to come and enjoy. Another castle to visit is Tattershall Castle.
Museums
There are great museums in Lincoln that celebrate the deep history of the area. One Museum is The Museum of Lincolnshire Life. This museum explores the history of common people in Lincolnshire since 1750. Some exhibits are recreated shops and early farm equipment. They also display one of the first tanks ever made for World War I. Another museum is the Collection which is now part of Usher Galleries.
Parks
There are many beautiful nature sites in Lincoln. Some of the parks include Whisby Nature Reserve and Hartshlome Park. The Lawn is an old psychiatric hospital that has been transformed into a beautiful visitors centre with gardens, buildings and a playground. The Sir Joseph Banks Conservatory is within the lawn and houses beautiful gardens and a tropical greenhouse.
Hotels and Restaurants
Sleeping and eating while in Lincoln can be very affordable. Hotel rates average around $80 per night depending of course on the time of the year you go. Restaurant in Lincoln are very diverse. There are many fine dining and high end options to choose from along with inexpensive pubs and chains.
