Days Hotel Derby
Edit ThisThe Days Hotel Derby is a brand new hotel offering superb rooms, excellent service and great value for money! Conveniently located at Derbyshire County Cricket Ground at the Gateway to the city centre. The hotel is an ideal location for both business and leisure guests. The Days Hotel Derby is one of a new breed of hotels designed for the business and leisure traveller, offering some of the best bedrooms available in our market. Unlike many other comparable hotels, we offer an evening menu and a choice of continental or cooked breakfast to suit every appetite. Our contemporary styled restaurant offers a relaxed setting, where our supper menu offers a wide choice of dishes from the exotic to more traditional favourites. Our bar is ideal to unwind with a relaxing drink after a busy day or as a meeting place with colleagues. We also have an air-conditioned meeting room, which hold between 20 and 30 delegates depending on the room layout. For our international guests, we have German and French speaking staff available at the reception.
The above is the official advert, here are my experiences.
The location is excellent if you are going to watch the cricket as it is right next to Derbyshire County Cricket Club. It is however about 15 minutes walk away from the town centre and there is no public transport close-by.
The property has a bit of a motel feel to it, fairly basic but clean and quite new looking. The well decorated rooms are small but comfortable with a writing desk, chairs and a TV. The bathroom has a great shower with plenty of room.
Not sure I would agree with the description of the “contemporary styled restaurant”. There is a small eating area off the lobby that is used for breakfast and evening meals and doubles up as a bar and lounge. There is however an American style restaurant called Damon’s next door which is independent of the hotel. Decent value for money, around £190 for a single room with king size bed for three nights (May 2007), breakfast is extra at about £7. I’d certainly consider staying there again if I was going to watch cricket but might also try to find something a bit more convenient for the centre.
