Origin of England


When the Romans left, the Anglo-Saxons invaded the area, reigned over the land, and called it England. History does not stop there because the Normans thereafter took over. In 1194, it then became a Roman Empire. In this era, Christianity had begun spreading to Northern Ireland. Roman Bishops established themselves in the region. Soon after, the Tudor period followed. Henry VII and Henry the VIII. Several assassination attempts were done but were unsuccessful.

Unification


Before England became united as one, there were several kings. Civil wars and a revolution also divided the land. King Edgar finally united the kingdom. But, when the Danes invaded England, all of the kings came as one to fight against a common enemy. Thus, a unified England was born. 1603 brought the alliance of Scotland and England, which spread the influence and popularity of England. Although there was union of the crowns, in 1680 a revolution occurred in England because of a choice between a Catholic King or a Protestant King. It was in the 20th century that England became a truly independent nation and is now a part of the United Kingdom. Today, England has emerged as one of the great nations in Europe.
