This claims to be England's highest town. It was once connected to Yelverton by a branch line of the Great Western Railwy's line from Plymouth to Tavistock, which wound remorselessly round some lesser tors. Ingra Tor halt must have been one of the bleakest in England.

The town still has the high security Dartmoos Prison which was built by French and American prisoners of war.

Every road around here is a scenic delight.
