Things to Do in Birmingham
Edit ThisBirmingham things to do will keep the visitor busy for days and days. You can spend a lazy afternoon at the reservoir or in a beautiful garden. You can treat yourself to a sweet tour through a chocolate city or you can get twisted on thrilling rides. One thing is for sure, you will not say, “There is nothing to do.” in this city.
Noccalula Falls
Noccalula Falls has a lot of attractions to offer visitors. You can go camping in the park in secure campsites with security gates. Rent a cabin for a couple of days or so and enjoy all the comforts of home in a beautiful country setting. Spend the day walking around the park, visit Pioneer Village, wander through the old schoolhouse and cross the covered bridge. Ride the train that will take you one mile around and through landscapes and scenery that will knock your socks off and the rides are unlimited as the admission is included in the entry fee for the park. Tour the gardens at Noccalula Falls and the animal habitat and petting zoo.
Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery
This lovely museum holds so much more than stuffy old artifacts that you can't touch or feel. There is a beautiful sculpture garden through the spring time. Inside you will find amazing works of art from people and groups like the Helen Keller Foundation, Amy Pleassant and many, many others. There are free programs you can participate in at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. There are great family activities, films, concerts and lectures along with many other fabulous events.
The Barber Institute
This is as close to heaven as the art lover will get. Here you will find great masterpieces from the Renaissance period, modern classics by Picasso and Monet as well as many other talented, if not eccentric, artists. You can catch great performances by the students with the annual Summer Festival of Music. Enjoy an opera or one of the Evening Concert Series performances. You can learn a little about art history and enjoy a classical concert at the same time.
Bournville Village
This is a very sweet town, literally, that was built by Cadbury for their factory workers. You will find large homes, each one not like the other, and they are situated around the center green.
Two of Birmingham's oldest buildings are located in Bournville Village. These buildings were built during the 13th century during medieval times and were moved to Bournville less than 100 years ago. There are two lovely manor houses in Bournville that were saved from being demolished when George Cadbury bought them. One is now a museum and the other a great little souvenir shop.
